Risk management

Risk management is the planned, concerted, participatory and comprehensive process of reducing the level of disaster risk in a community, region or country. It relies on the complementarity of local, regional and national capacities and resources and is closely linked to the pursuit of sustainable development. It is the series of administrative decisions and organizational and operational knowledge used to implement policies and strategies to reduce the impact of natural hazards and environmental and technological disasters. Adaptation measures include planning and integrated risk management to reduce the vulnerability of communities and countries to the impacts of climate change. (United Nations Development Programme).
